A New Beginning
Chapter One
She slowly climbed down the cab and walked toward the huge massive building that awaited her at the end of the road. The girl sighed and stood for a while in front of the gate, is this where my fate brings me? she thought. Still pondering over her thoughts, she finally shrugged them away and walked toward the so called building that people call Garden. She walked through the entrance and looked around to find that all around her were students. Some seemed to be in deep thoughts, while others chatted constantly with their friends and a lot of them just seem to be running round in circles. She looked around trying to find someone she could get help from and then spotted a petite cute brown haired girl standing at the side alone wearing a yellow dress, “Excuse me?”
The girl looked at her and smiled, “Hi.”
She hesitated, “Could you tell me how to get to the headmaster’s office?”
“I’ll do better, I’ll take you,” she said taking her hands hands and yanking her inside. The new girl had no choice but to follow. “By the way I’m Selphie.”
“I’m .”
Selphie’s smile became broader as she stood in front of the elevator, “Nice to meet cha,”
just nodded.
The elevator opened and a guy walked out bumping rudely into Selphie, “Hey!” she shouted.
He just glared at her and walked pas.
“Meanie,” muttered Selphie, pushing her tongue out at his back.
curiously looked back, but didn’t get to see him, for he was already gone.
“Don’t mind him, , he gives us Garden students a bad example to others,” Selphie mumbled.
“It’s okay.”
The elevator stopped and she got out with Selphie. “Here’s where I stop, you’re on your own now,”
thanked her and proceeded through the room and towards the door. She walked in and found a huge room surrounded by windows, then by the door she found an average heighten man with scruffy brown hair and round rimmed glasses. “?”
watched him in semi-surprise. She knew that he was expecting her, but she was a few days early, did he expect that too? “Yes.”
“Welcome to Balamb Garden,”
“Thank you,”
He picked up a file that was set on the desk next to him, “Now….” he began, scanning through the file in his hand, “You’re from?”
She hesitated. “I don’t know,” she admitted, not looking at him. I hate that question...
“I see,” he said still looking at her file. “I assume that you're here because you know about the SEED test?”
“Yes,”
“Good, all I can tell you now is that you have to prepare for the test, then we’ll see how you qualify to be part of Garden, deal?” he said humbly, finally looking at her confused face.
“Umm…” that's it? He's satisfied with my answer just like that?
“Your ID is in this envelope,” he explained, handing her an envelope, “You can get any information you want from the computer in your classroom, which is on the second floor and...” he said, looking at his watch. "You should run along and make sure you're not late. You're dismissed for now."
She nodded.
“By the way it doesn’t say what weapon you use in here,” he asked as she turned to walk out.
“Daggers,” she answered.
He looked at her. “That’s a first,” he said, “We’ll just have to see how you do on the exam then,” he said, smiling for the first time. “Now let me ask someone to escort you around before your class starts,” he said, picking up his intercom, “Will Zell come to the headmaster’s office,”
A few minutes later a loud looking guy walked in. He was dressed in baggy jean shorts with black and red shirt, he had spiked blonde hair and a tattoo on the left side of his face. “Yes, sir?” he asked.
“This young lady’s new here,” he said, looking at , “Show her around,”
“Far out!” he exclaimed, grabbing her hand and pulling her into the elevator, “Where you from? What weapon you use? Do you….” And it kept going on and on.

Next Day.
sighed as she sat down in the classroom. She was bored, actually she was bored out of her mind and she had no idea what was going on. Without being watched, she switched on her PC and looked at the SEED test training schedule, it’s bad enough that I have to worry about the battles, but the written test is another problem.
“SEIFER!” she heard the instructor shouting, interrupting her thoughts. looked up and saw instructor Trepe known as Quistis scold a guy, who was distinctly looked like the same rude person from the elevator yesterday, he's actually not bad looking, she thought looking at him. He caught her looking then ignored her, just like that.
“Don’t mind him,” she heard someone whisper behind, “he’s an ass,”
She looked back and saw another guy. One look at him and she could tell that he was a flirt, “And you are?” she asked, curious but not that curious.
“Irvine Kinneas”
She looked at him. “You’re a SEED already, why are you here?”
“I’ll be one of the escorts on the SEED test, I was asked to check out the students,” he answered.
narrowed her eyes in suspicious, more like check out the girls. I get the feeling I shouldn't get too close to him, she thought, looking away. She decided it was time to focus on the instructor and listen to what she was saying.
“Good luck,” he said with a grin.
“Thanks.

Half An Hour Later.
“Thank god that’s over,” whispered as she walked out of the class. She walked silently to her dorm when came an announcement on the intercom, “Will SEED test takers proceed to the main hall, the leader would like to inform you of the details,”
“Leader?” asked confused. She wasn't aware that there was a leader here.
“That would be Squall,” explained Zell, coming behind her. He could tell that she looked confused when she heard the announcement. “He’s my buddy,” he said proudly.
just listened as he talked.

Three Hours Later.
“…….And that’s why it is important to take this exam,” Squall finished.
stifled a yawn, I’m going to die, she thought walking away from the main hall, then she sighed, I better start training at the training centre if I want to keep my skills up, she thought. As she walked towards the facility, she bumped into a girl who wore a blue dress, “Hey….” she said angrily.
looked confused, “Excuse me?” she muttered, why is she hey-ing me when she was the one bumped into me?!
“Never mind,” she said, “You’re new here, right?”
“Yes,”
“I’m Rinoa,”
Rinoa? Rinoa? Now where have I heard that name before, she asked herself then it triggered, Oh yeah Zell told me about her, she’s Squall’s girl! remembered, “yes, I'm new and my name is .”
Her scowl turned into a smile, “Nice to meet you, now I have to go."
sighed and walked to the training centre; she looked around to see if anyone else was there, but then realized that she was all alone. “Better get prepared,” she thought totally ignoring rule #1 of being in the training area and that's not to go in alone.
