Why?

Why does it always end up being like this?

 "z.z.z.z.z..."

Confession

and Akutagawa Jirou have been close friends since their childhood years.

It all started when they both were reaching for the latest release of Dragonball. Who would have thought a simple hobby such as reading manga would blossom into friendship, then, eventually, affection.

-----

" -chan~!"

Feeling the weight on her back, she turned her head and peered at the boy with the curly orange hair.

"Yes, Jirou-chan?"

Smiling, the boy got off and stood beside her.

"Did you get the latest issue?"

Jirou was clearly excited. This hobby of his was still evident through the years and liked that about him. The fact that he was able to stay young in personality made her happy. His cheerfulness made her day. His smile, like the sun behind parting clouds, made her feel all warm inside.

Yes, had feelings for him. But, could she ever tell him?

had always been shy. It was only by a miracle that she was able to open up to Jirou. Maybe it was the way that he made her feel at ease? Or maybe it was his bubbly personality?

Why?

Why was she afraid to tell him?

-----

Jirou looked to his right. Walking beside him was his close friend. Looking at her made him smile. Yes, he had feelings for her. But opening up was hard. He knew that. What was to happen if he did tell her how he felt? Would she accept him and his feelings? Or would she feel uncomfortable and that would be the end of their long friendship?

This was something that was hard to receive an answer to.

Yes, Jirou had tried many times to tell her. But, sadly, those attempts had failed. He had fallen asleep.

Should he try again? Would this attempt be in vain?

Going back to reality, Jirou had realized that was talking. Shaking the questions out of his head, he listened attentively, joining in frequently to the conversation. Yes, it was another manga related conversation.

 -----

It felt good under the shaddy tree. yawned, feeling a bit drowzy. Jirou had asked her to meet him at their usual spot. She figured that he wanted to talk about some of the newest releases again. had stayed up the previous night catching up on her manga reading so she would have something to talk to him about. It seemed to her that their friendship was built around mangas. But she wasn't complaining. Just being with him was already enough.

Was confessing even going to be an option?

-----

Jirou ran as quickly as he could. He had fallen asleep in class today and had to stay afterschool to clean up the room. Why? He was thinking too much of what was to happen today.

"I'll make it up to her!"

Jirou continued running until he saw the big old tree. Hopefully, would still be there when he arrived.

This was the day. This was the day that he was going to confess.

Jirou's heart raced.

How is she going to react? Would he be rejected? Only one way to know.

-----

had a hard time keeping her eyes opened. They felt heavy and the feeling of sleep was slowly creeping up on her.

Yawning once more, wondered when he would arrive. Sure, she waited every time but how much longer can she wake? Actually, she would have waited an eternity.

Opening her eyes once more, she looked forward. A figure was running towards her. Smiling, she felt much more at ease than she was already.

"Sorry! The teacher made me stay after school!"

Sticking out his tongue and placing a hand behind his head, he apologized. was used to it. It was also a cute sight.

"It's alright! Really!" said warmly.

smiled back at him. It was the only thing she could do. What's done has been done. All that matters now was that she was there, with him, alone together.

Jirou took a seat beside her. How exactly was he going to tell her? Something sudden could scare her. Something too subtle and she may not get it. Saying it just the right way was hard.

Eventually, he gathered his courage together.

" - eh?"

"z.z.z.z..."

Jirou blinked, "Heh..."He smiled. I guess it was finally her turn to fall asleep on him.

Confessing can wait another day.
